If there was a store to represent the Pink Unicorn aesthetic, this would be it. The Tarina Tarantino boutique on Melrose Avenue in Los Angeles. Not only do her store design and jewelry creations say Pink Unicorn, but Tarina herself has fantastically pink hair. She designs and sells brightly colored jewelry featuring Hello Kitty, Alice in Wonderland, Barbie, The Wizard of Oz, skulls, hearts, and general sparkle. If you are lucky enough to receive a gift from her online store, the pink gift box complete with pink bow states “Have a sparkling day!” It is enough to transport me from my too realistic and responsible life, to a world of pink sparkle. Sigh of relaxtion…ahhh.

Tarina’s website indicates her Melrose boutique colors were inspired by the filmThe Umbrellas of Cherbourg, which I enjoyed thanks to “Tarina’s recommendation.” I rented it immediately following my first visit to her store and was NOT disappointed (I am a sucker for French film and a good color story). Anyway, today I dropped by the Melrose location for what might have been my last visit. They will be closing this location sometime in December (exact date T.B.D.) and will be opening a new store downtown Los Angeles the same month. The downtown location is reported to be somewhere near the Ace Hotel.
