When life and Grey’s Anatomy get too serious for my taste, I lighten things up by thinking whimsical thoughts.  I love picturing whimsical worlds.  I love hearing, saying, and reading the word whimsical. Naturally, it happens to be my favorite word.  I would love to find myself in a state of whimsy as pictured above (photo from the book Kate Spade New York Things We Love; Twenty Years of Inspiration, Intriguing Bits and Other Curiosities by Kate Spade New York and Deborah Lloyd).

How does one pair being a responsible adult with having time to be a finder of whimsy and the excessively playful?  Any suggestions?

When I was young, I spent a lot of time looking up at the ceiling and picturing myself walking on it.  Upside down of course.  I also desperately wished that the Mary Poppins chalk drawing scene would become a reality in my life.  I am pretty sure I tried to make it happen, several times.

As an adult, I have gotten more in touch with reality when it comes to flights of fancy and escapism.  You know, like when I look things up like “What is my unicorn name?”, click here or Unicorn Name Generator. In case you are wondering, mine is Crazy Orange Creamsicle, and it definitely feels right. I happen to love Orange Creamsicles and am wondering if they might be for sale at Ralph’s down the street.

Puppies also seem to do the trick; well at least for the excessively playful thing.

How do you add and find whimsy to/in your adult responsible life?
